Greve in Chianti is located just south of Florence on the via Chiantigiana that leads to Siena. In the 13th century it started out as the market square of the nearby castle of Montefioralle, but through the years grew to be the main city in the Chianti region.
On the square, which really isn’t a square at all, there are several shops, bars, restaurants located, including the Falorni butchery that has been there since 1792. A statue is dedicated to local explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, who discovered the Hudson Bay in New York.
